"Pit Bulls: They're Just Dogs" Nerd Nite Los Angeles presentation by Peggy Kennedy and Royce Chang
Tickets are $10. Doors open at 7 p.m. Introduction at 7:45 p.m., presentation at 8 p.m.
We'll discuss the history of pit bull type dogs, including the term "pit bull" and what breeds it does and doesn't include. We'll also touch on the challenges that pit bull type dogs face today, and some of the stereotypes -- both positive and negative -- that affect the lives of these dogs and their families.
Bios: Peggy Kennedy has been volunteering with animal rescue organizations since 2004 when she interned at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. She ran a high-volume pet sitting and dog walking business and has walked around 1,000 different dogs of all shapes and sizes over the last 10 years. She currently is a small business consultant and marketing professional and lives in L.A. with her husband and two dogs.
Royce Chang is a doctorate of clinical psychology candidate and therapist with experience in treating adolescents with substance abuse and mood disorders. She began volunteering with Angel City Pit Bulls five years ago, shortly after adopting an American Pit Bull Terrier from a local shelter. In the last four years, she has fostered over 150 pit bull type dogs in her home, which she shares with her two dogs and two dog-like cats. She volunteers her free time evaluating and working with pit bull type dogs in L.A. city shelters and in her home.
