Every day, dogs and cats are killed in shelters around the country just because they don’t have safe places to call home. But, together, we’re changing that and saving lives in Los Angeles and nationwide.

Best Friends has always believed that collaboration is the key to saving more lives, which is why we created the No-Kill Los Angeles (NKLA) initiative and then the NKLA Coalition.

The NKLA initiative brought together passionate individuals, city shelters and an entire coalition of local animal welfare organizations to save the lives of homeless dogs and cats in L.A. We’ve made incredible progress for the animals, but there’s still work to do for our best friends in Los Angeles. Together, let’s Save Them All.

How we’re helping to save pets in Los Angeles

In 2012, Best Friends created the NKLA initiative and we’ve been working hard ever since, along with NKLA Coalition members, to save the lives of homeless pets in L.A. through adoption and foster programs, spay/neuter services, kitten programs, advocacy work and more.

Become a NKLA Coalition member

No one rescue group or shelter can create a no-kill city, and that’s why we work with more than 140 NKLA Coalition members to save lives across L.A.

The NKLA Coalition, led by Best Friends, is at the heart of lifesaving in Los Angeles. Coalition members can receive grants, connect and collaborate with other organizations to help further their work, participate in adoption and fundraising events, take part in mentorship and training opportunities, and more.
